First Avenue, between East 42nd Street south, East 48th Street
New York

The United Nations headquarters are located in New York City, however, the site upon which it is built is not American ground, but international territory. This international organisation was created at the end of the Second World War with the objective of preventing conflict between member nations.

The UN headquarters are located in a complex of modern buildings founded in 1950 at the edge of the East River.

Other attractions at this architectural complex are the gardens, the modern sculptures around the buildings and the statue of Henry Moore. It is also nice to see all 192 flags of the member nations flying. There are guided visits of the United Nations.
