Princes Street Gardens

Scott Monument was built in memory of the Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott. It is a Victorian gothic monument which was constructed between 1840 and 1846 and can be seen in Princes Street Gardens. There is a marble statue of the writer below the arches of this monument and it measures around 60m and is decorated with 64 statues of the characters which appear in Walter Scott’s novels.

The Floral Clock is also located in Princes Street Gardens, near Scott Monument. It is a flower bed which tells the time. The hands of the clock are also covered in flowers, however, the bad weather in Scotland means that the watch can only been seen in the summer months as it has to be replanted each spring.
