The National Museums of Scotland have a collection which is divided among the Museum of Scotland and the Royal Museum. Both museums show a collection explaining Scottish history, the land, the people and the culture from prehistoric times to the present day. One of the most interesting displays at the Royal Museum is the exhibition of the first animal to be cloned, Dolly the Sheep.

There are other National Museums in Edinburgh such as the War Museum which is in Edinburgh Castle and the Museum of Flight. The Museum of Costume and the Museum of Rural Life are other national museums which are located outside of Edinburgh.
