Castlehill, Royal Mile

Calton Hill is one of the main hills located in the centre of Edinburgh and many important buildings such as Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament lie at the foot of the hill. There are a number of significant monuments on the hill such as the National Monument, which was designed by William Henry Playfair and built in 1822 in memory of all who died during the Napoleonic Wars, not to mention the Nelson’s Monument and the Dugald Stewart Monument.

Calton Hill is surrounded by a winding road which was also designed by Playfair and it offers beautiful views over the city.
