The Mound

The National Gallery of Scotland has a permanent collection of paintings and sculptures which date back to the Renaissance period. The majority of the works in this gallery are European and it famous for hosting the largest collection of Scottish art in the world. The gallery is open daily and there is no entrance fee.

The National Gallery is made up of a number of independent galleries which house 17th and 20th century artwork. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery displays portraits of people who have played an influential role in Scotland’s history. Finally, the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery host modern art, dada and surrealist collections.

The Royal Scottish Academy is another gallery which shows temporary exhibitions and Paxton House, Duff House and Granton Centre for Art host other exhibitions.
