Found in the very heart of Geneva, beside Genève Uni – Bastions University – is Place Neuve. This is described as the centre of Genevan culture and was built outside the former ramparts of the city.

The central statue in this square is a popular tourist attraction. Here you will find a statue of Henri Dufour, Genevan general and national hero, also renowned for creating the first map of Switzerland.

If you are in Geneva to soak up the culture you should visit this square as it is surrounded by three important Genevan buildings: the city opera house – Grand-Théâtre, the Conservatory of Music and the Rath Museum which displays some of the most important temporary exhibitions in the world.
