Santa Cruz de Tenerife replaced La Laguna as the capital of the island in the 1723. It is located on the east coast of Tenerife and so its prime position made it an important crossroads for trade between Europe, Africa and the Americas as it is home to the most important port on the island.

Santa Cruz is one of the perfect resorts for a tourist who wants to sample a bit of everything during their stay as it has beaches, museums, shops and nightlife.

The modern structure of Tenerife Opera House located in the city is a witness to Santa Cruz’s cultural variety. This is where cultural events and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra perform. Santa Cruz is also where the famous Tenerife Carnival takes place each year and it transforms the city into a colourful parade with music and costumes during the event.

There are various museums in the capital, such as the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Nature and Men.

Playa de la Teresitas is the most popular beach in Santa Cruz and it is just four miles from the city centre. Having enjoyed a day of soaking up the rays, you should head to Plaza de Príncipe de Asturias in the city centre where you can mix with the locals.

Santa Cruz has a vast array of attractions so rest assured that it has something for you.
