Plaza Llotja, Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca

La Llotja, or Lonja, was the old Stock Exchange in Palma which was built by Guillem Sagrera, who was one of the architectural masters in the area. This building symbolises Palma’s economic power in the 15th century.

This building was built in the form of a square with four towers at each corner and from the outside, La Llotja resembles a fortress or a castle.

La Llotja is well worth visiting as it is one of the liveliest districts in Palma. The open-air bars are packed with people who gather to watch the fire-eaters and jugglers which give Llotja square a medieval setting.
