Las Ventas bullring in Madrid is not only the main bullring in Spain, but it is also the most famous in the world hosting some of the best bullfighters and being the main venue for events such as the San Isidro Festival which is held in May each year. It was designed by José Espelius and Muñoz Monasterio in 1918 and building of the ring commenced in 1928 and was not completed until five years later. Named after the place where it was built "Ventas del Espíritu Santo," this spectacular arena can host 23,000 viewers and is made of red brick and blue ceramic tiles, creating a mudéjar style. A Bullfighting Museum was opened in 1951 and is a popular tourist attraction as it displays many items related to this traditional event. Bullfights take place between May and October.
