Agüimes is a municipality in the east of the island and it forms the suburbs of Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria. The area attracts tourists in search of a cultural break as it is home to a beautifully restored old town with lots of street statues and sculptures, not to mention cave houses, cave restaurants, bars and churches which date back hundreds of years. Just a bus ride from the cosmopolitan capital, this is a town where you can take a breath of fresh air and relax.

Agüimes also attracts water sports fans as it is home to the International Windsurfing Centre in Pozo Izquierdo resort and there is also a scuba diving resort known as El Cabrón next to a town called Arinaga.
