Beaches in Barcelona Barcelona is an excellent place to go if you want a city break as well as a place to enjoy the sun. For this reason the number of visitors increases considerably during the summer months as it is a city which not only offers lots of sights to see and the chance to shop, but also long sandy beaches. Mar Bella and Sant Sebastià beaches both have nudist areas and all the beaches in Barcelona have a Red Cross team ready on hand which is reassuring if you are travelling with young children. There are also toilet facilities, bars, restaurants and kiosks where you can get a refreshing drink during the day or enjoy a romantic meal with a sea view by night. However, if you prefer to escape the city, you can visit some of the other beaches along the coast, such as Sitges or the Costa Brava. The beaches in the city are cleaned three times a day during the summer months and there are lifeguards and water fountains which will keep you hydrated during the heat of the summer days. Lots of people also enjoy doing sport on the beaches, such as volleyball or perhaps surfing on the windier days.
