For many people, a trip to South Spain is about the beaches, for others it is about the wine. Thousands visit this area where the rich and diverse culture is reflected in the abundance of quality wines.

Whether you like a fruity temperanillo or a warming sherry, there will be something here to stir your nose and please your palate. The Alicante region itself, is not widely known for its wine quality. You will have to make a journey west, to Murcia to experience something a bit more special.

Changes in cultivation have improved the yields and consistency produced from the older vines and thinner soil here. After a trip to a winery, there will be plenty of choice of bottles to take home to your friends. You can typically expect a tour from the owner themselves with the opportunity to try around 10 different whites, reds and ros├ęs if you visit a family-sized grower. Larger producers will involve less personal but more extensive tours which will take in the vineyards, fermentation and maturing areas.

Here is one of our favourites located about an hour and a half drive from Alicante. They have tours, sales and tasting, and are open Monday to Friday: 11am – 1pm and 4.30pm – 6pm.
