El Tossal de Manises

Lucentum represents what remains of some of the earlier occupation in this area. The earliest people to live here date back to around 220 BC. However, the Romans established the majority of the remains you can see at this site today between the 1st centuries BC and AD. Subsequent visits by the Muslims, and Greek influences as a result of early trading, have been found during excavations at the site.

Today, you can still see most of the foundations and some supporting columns of a typical Roman city. They installed baths, a sewage system, running water, defences and areas for entertainment. The Muslim Necropolis and the remnants of many homes are also still here today for you to explore.

Many of the artefacts that were found here can be viewed at the Archaeological Museum of Alicante as some of the site was raided or removed for road building.
