Upper Auckland

K Road, as it is locally known, is the most famous road in Auckland. It is widely regarded as the centre of film and media, nights out, boutiques and independent shopping. K Road has grown up from its seedier past as the red light district to place itself at the cutting edge of cool. Its roots are still evident in some of the nightlife offerings you can find along stretches of this multi-coloured district. Distinctive theatres, comedy clubs, shows, clubs and restaurants of local and international flavour bustle with diverse, fresh performances and varied cuisine.

There are tours available (link here) to guide you through the infamous characters that make up the heritage of this area and give life to the buildings as seen today. Remember to take your camera to capture the Victorian arcade, sometimes eccentric architecture of the shop fronts, and many beautiful churches along the route.
