Delhi experiences extreme weather conditions in the summer and the winter as a result of its semi-arid climate which is very typical of south-east Asia. The year is usually divided into two seasons, the dry season and the wet season. The wet season starts at the end of June and lasts until September. July and August are traditionally the wettest months of the year; the rest of the year is dry and sunny.

Fog is common during the dry season as a result of the contamination in the city but snow is vary rare in Delhi. The best time to visit the city is in February or March when the temperatures are milder. However, the summer months are extremely hot, with temperatures reaching 45C from mid-April until the monsoon season which lasts from April until to October.
