Indira Gandhi International Airport is around 14 miles from New Delhi and is the main airport in India. It connects New Delhi with the rest of the world and it also offers domestic flights. Getting from the airport to the city or vice versa is easy as there is a 24h bus service which covers the route.

Delhi is the main hub for Indian Railways and has two main stations, one in New Delhi, New Delhi Railway Station and the other in Old Delhi, Delhi Main Station. One of the most popular tourist routes is on the Shatabdi Express which connects New Delhi with Agra, home to the famous Taj Mahal. It is a good idea to reserve your train ticket in advance and bookings can be made 30 days before travelling.

New Delhi is also connected to other cities in India by bus. The main bus station is the Inter-state Bus Terminal at Kashmiri Gate.

Public Transport

There are many cycle rickshaws, auto rickshaws and taxis at the main train stations in the city. Cycle rickshaws are more common in Old Delhi and they can usually transport two or three people for a short journey. It is a good idea to agree a price before starting the ride.

There is a train service called Ring Railway in the city centre as well as many buses which connect the whole city. The bus service is the method used to connect the city centre at night and it stops at all the train stations. The buses are always packed and so it is best to avoid them at peak hours.

The newest method of transport is by the metro service which has three lines and 56 stations.
