Ardettos Hill

As the birthplace of the Olympic Games, the Panathenaic Stadium is definitely a historical monument worth visiting. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world……shaped like a hairpin and made entirely of white marble. The stadium has been renovated on a number of occasions and today, it can host 80,000 spectators.

The present-day building dates back to 329 AD when it was built by archon Lycurgus; however, it was renovated by Herodes Atticus in 140 AD. It is the largest building in Athens and it was used to host the first Olympic Games of the Modern era which were held in 1896.

This tourist attraction is found east of the National Gardens and the Zappeion Exhibition Hall.
