This museum is renowned as one of the best museums in the world and was built by Ludwig Lange in 1860. At the National Archaeological Museum you will see findings from Greek archaeology sites which make up the world’s largest collection of Greek art.

The Mycenaean Hall is considered the most interesting collection at the museum. It is home to findings from the Mycenae Room 4 and other Mycenaean sites and these reveal something of the Mycenaean Culture. Two of the artefacts particularly worth seeing are the Vaphio cups and the Mask of Agamemnon. Other interesting displays are the Epigraphic Collection, the Neolithic Hall and the Cycladic Collection.

This museum is huge and nearly always busy, particularly during the high season. The best time to visit the museum is when it opens or at lunch time.
