Munich is located in the south-east of Germany and stands about 520m above sea level on the elevated plains of Upper Bavaria. Just over 30 miles north of the Alps, Munich has a continental climate which is strongly affected by its geographical surroundings.

Summers are characterised by warm weather and high temperatures, and usually last from May to September. Winters are cold and usually last from November to March during which temperatures can lower to -2C. Rain is always common due to its proximity to the Alps. April, May, September and October are the best months to visit Munich as the temperatures are mild and there are generally fewer tourists.
