Altstadt, Munich

On arrival in the Bavarian capital, take a walk through its Old Town. This is the area which runs from Siegestor (north) to Sendlinger Tor (south). Renowned for its cocktail of cultural activity including museums, theatres, restaurants and churches, there is always something to do in this part of the city.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in the area is Residenz, which was used as the official residence for the rulers of Bavaria between 1385 and 1918, and is now a museum. Or, experience Bavarian culture in Marienplatz – the centre of the Old Town which has shops, restaurants, Christmas markets and lots of atmosphere.

The list of tourist attractions in this part of the town is endless: Frauenkirche, Odeonplatz, Neues Rathaus, St. Peterskirche. Discover the Old Town and in doing so, learn the history of one of Germany’s major cities.
