Unter den Linden means under the lime trees which refers to the lime trees which were planted in the street in 1647 by order of the king. This is the street which connects the Royal Palace to Tiergarten Park. Over time, Unter den Linden has become one of the main roads in the city surrounded by a number of important buildings.

Some of the most symbolic buildings of the city and a wide variety of restaurants, shops and theatres can be found in Unter den Linden today.

Hotel Adlon, the Russian embassy, one of buildings of the Berlin Opera, Humboldt University, Zeghaus, which houses the German Historical Museum, as well as the Berliner Dom are just some of the most important buildings which can be found in Unter den Linden.
