Musée du Louvre
Quai du Louvre, 36

The Louvre Museum in Paris is one of the most important in the world. It hosts a collection of more than 300,000 works of art, 35,000 of which are on show. The immensity of the building makes it impossible to see in one day and so if your time is limited you should try and select the galleries that you want to see.

The museum is located within the Louvre Palace and it was opened in 1793. One of the most outstanding features of the museum is the huge pyramid which was built in 1989 and is located in the inner courtyard of the palace. The pyramid is built of glass and aluminium and is a striking contrast to the classic style of the palace. It is used as the entrance to the museum.

The Louvre displays objects and works by artists from before 1848. Artwork which was done after this period is displayed in the Musée d’Orsay and contemporary art is found in the Centre Pompidou.

The Louvre will give you the chance to marvel at the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo and you will step back in time when you see the sarcophagus display, Egyptian Antiquities and the Jardin des Tuileries.
