Prague Castle Hradčanské náměstí Praha Prague Castle was built during the 9th century and within a short period of time became the cultural and political powerhouse of the country. It was used as the residence for former Bohemian Kings and later became the Presidential seat in 1918. The immensity of the castle is breathtaking at first sight, measuring 570m long and 128m wide. It is the largest medieval castle in the world and within the castle grounds there are various Gothic and baroque style buildings. Guided tours of the castle will take you around the building to see the Crown Jewels and the castle rooms. Some of the most significant features within the castle grounds are St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George’s Basilica and Convent and Lobkowizk Palace.
