The National Museum in Prague is the largest museum in the Czech Republic and has a collection of more than 14 million objects related to nature, human beings and their lives, art and music. It is located in a 19th century building and displays various permanent collections which are classified into the following departments mineralogy, palaeontology, zoology, archaeology and anthropology.

The museum was originally founded in 1818 in Sternberg Palace; however, it was relocated to the neo-renaissance building in Wenceslas Square in 1891. It also hosts various temporary exhibitions.
