Canada Day, also referred to as Canada’s Birthday, is celebrated all over the country and it commemorates the ratification of the British North America Act of 1867 which created the Canadian federal government. It is a federal statutory holiday which is always celebrated on 1 July, unless this day is a Sunday, in which case the celebrations and bank holiday are moved to Monday 2 July.

Canada Day is also regarded as a family day as it is an opportunity for everyone to spend time together. Some of the activities organised on Canada Day are fireworks, outdoor public events, parades, carnivals, festivals and concerts.

One of the most popular Canadian cities to celebrate Canada Day is in Toronto. Every year, Mel Lastman Square in Toronto city centre becomes a rainbow of colours as fireworks are set off to celebrate Canada Day. There are also international barbecues, parades, stalls and concerts.
