Plaza Pio X,
Centro,
Rio de Janeiro

Located in the financial centre of Rio de Janeiro is Our Lady of the Candelária which is a striking neoclassical style church. The church body forms a Latin cross and the ostentatious interior covered in marble and decorated with murals and stained glass windows adds to the splendour of the building.

This monument was built during the 18th century when Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil and it is still a popular tourist attraction as a result of its stunning architecture. The outer wall of the building is made of carved stone and the bronze doors are nothing less than perfect. Inside the building you will see murals which tell the history of the church painted by Zeferino da Costa and a group of artists.
