Barra de la Tijuca Beach is the longest beach in Rio de Janeiro measuring 9 miles long and being situated in the south of the city. This is a popular spot for doing water sports and many come to do windsurfing, surfing and body boarding because of the huge waves.

Barra da Tijuca is also the name of the district which has become one of the most important business and entertainment centres in the city with lots of restaurants and bars which attract the bathers at the beach.

There are lots of stalls, bars and seafood restaurants along the seafront and the beach is renowned as the venue for the national and international surfing championships.
