If you want to escape the hustle and bustle in the centre of Buenos Aires you should go to the picturesque coastal city of Tigre which is 20 miles from the capital city and is a natural refuge. You can take the coastal train to this city and it is a nice way to discover the Argentinean coast.

One of the most popular attractions at Tigre is the catamaran ride along the delta from Puerto de Frutos (Fruits Port). This port has played a very important trading role in the city as products and wood are brought into it to be sold in shops. The open-air market selling homemade honey, flowers, fruit and accessories is also a popular tourist attraction at Tigre.

Apart from being a significant port city, Tigre is also home to the Museo de Arte Tigre, Tigre Art Museum, displaying Argentinean art which dates from the end of the 19th century to the 20th century. You can also visit the Museo Naval de la Nación, which has full-scale models of boats and old maps. Likewise, if you like museums which relate to the history of Argentina you should go to the Museo de Sarmiento which is the resting place of President Sarmiento.

There are various rowing clubs, bars and restaurants at Paseo Victoria at the edge of the River Luján. This is where you can do water sports, go fishing and have a look at the market. You can take the ferry from Tigre to the Martín García Island which is an ideal place to relax and another good reason to take a trip to Tigre.
