The Teatro Colón Opera House in Buenos Aires was opened on 25th May 1908 and is one of the most important theatres in the world. If you don’t have time to go and see a show at the Teatro Colón during your stay in Buenos Aires, you should definitely take a guided tour of the building just to see its magnificent architecture. The tour includes the auditorium, the backstage areas and everything is explained so that you will go away knowing the building inside out.

In the main entrance there is a cloakroom with marble steps which leads to the Bust Room and the Golden Room which you can see during the tour. The main auditorium can host 2,478 guests and its golden and red interior is illuminated under the 700 lights of the huge chandelier which dominates the room. In the underground room you can see a collection of 20,000 pairs of shoes which have been housed in the theatre since it was opened.
