Retiro in the north-east of Buenos Aires and is renowned as being one of the main business centres where you can buy typical leathers, stones and crafts. The main railway and bus stations are situated in Retiro and so make it a key connection point in the city.

Florida Street is one of the most popular in this district. It is completely pedestrianised and is one of the main business streets in Buenos Aires as it is home to the famous Pacific Galleries.

The Monumental Tower, Torre de los Ingleses which was a present from England to Argentina to celebrate 100 years of Argentinean Independence is another important feature which is popular with tourists. Plaza San Martín is definitely the historic centre of this district and it is the second most important square in Buenos Aires, pipped at the post by Plaza de Mayo.

One of the first skyscrapers in Buenos Aires, the Kavanagh Building, which was opened in 1936 and is located in Florida Street is 120m high and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Retiro which is not a National Monument.
