The Statue of Liberty was a present to the USA from France to mark the 100th year of American Independence in 1886 and to thank the USA for their help during the Franco-Prussian War. It is located on Liberty Island in the River Hudson.

The monument is a women and it measures 46m high and weighs 225 tonnes. It was built in Paris and then taken apart and sent to America by boat. In 1984, the Statue of Liberty was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and today it is the most famous monument in the USA.

You will have to take the ferry to get to Liberty Island and entrance to the Statue of Liberty is free; however, there is no access to the crown or torch.
