The Metropolitan Museum of New York has a large permanent collection which covers the history of the world from the prehistoric era until the present day. This museum houses more than two million works of art from all over the world from different periods in time.

There is a collection of furniture, ceramics and textiles from the 17th and 20th century and objects from America. There is also another gallery dedicated to paintings and American sculptures and objects from the colonial period.

The Egyptian collection is the most popular in the museum and it displays hieroglyphs, mummies and household utensils all divided into various rooms and passages forming a collection of 36,000 objects. One of the most famous pieces in the museum is the Egyptian temple of Dendur which was brought to the museum stone by stone.
