Gay Pride

Despite the first references to a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community dating as far back as 12,000 BC, it would appear that Gay Pride is a relatively modern concept which started around the 1960s as a result of the famous riots at the Stonewall Inn in New York.

Gay Pride or LGBT is a movement for three main causes. Firstly, it advocates that people should be proud of their sexual orientation and gender identity. Secondly, the movement believes that diversity is a gift, and lastly, sexual orientation is inherent.

Today, Gay Pride, Gay Pride parades and The International Day against Homophobia are events which are celebrated all over the world. Some of the most popular Gay Pride festivals and events in Europe are held in London, Amsterdam and Paris where weeklong programmes of festivities including street parades, live music and DJs, drag and cabaret events are organised.
