Father's Day
Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. This year it falls on the 21 June. This celebration is said to date back to 5 July 1908 when it was first observed in West Virginia. However, it was not officially inaugurated until 1976. It was introduced to compliment Mother’s Day which had been implemented many years before. Just as Mother’s Day is a celebration of motherhood, Father’s Day honours fathers.
Children usually give small gifts to their fathers and it is generally a day which the family spends together.
