Riddarholmskyrkan is the church where royal funerals and special ceremonies have been held in Sweden for more than 700 years. It was built in 1200 AD and is located on Riddarholmen Island forming part of the Old Town (Gamla Stan) in Stockholm.

There are lots of luxury hotels on this island which date back to the 17th century, as well as a statue of Birger Jarl, the founder of Stockholm.

Riddarholmskyrkan Church is one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm and when it was founded it was a monastery. The building is currently open to the public during the summer and on days when there are concerts.

The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm hosts 1,000 performances each year and is housed in an art noveau style building with eight stages. This theatre is where actors and actresses as famous as Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman have taken to the stage.

The theatre is currently open to the general public for guided tours, or alternatively you can attend one of the marvellous theatre productions. The main stage is Stora scenen which was opened in 1908 and can hold 720 spectators. Some of the secondary stages are Lilla scenen, Tornrummet and Lilla Elverket.

Stockholm Globe Arena is the largest spherical theatre in the world and is used to host both sporting and musical events. Globen means balloon in Swedish and the building gets its name from its unusual shape.

It was opened in 1989 for the international ice hockey championships and is a popular tourist attraction today because of its unique structure. The stadium is used for hockey and basketball matches.

Some of the most famous artists who have performed in the stadium are U2 and Bruce Stringsteen. The annual Melodifestivalen is held at the stadium and it was also used to host the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2000.

Opéra Bastille and Opéra Paris are the theatres used by the leading opera company in France, the Opera National de Paris.

The theatre was built at the request of Napoleon III and has a neo-baroque style which gives it an elegant look. The inner furnishings are also elaborate and luxurious with candelabras and golden motifs, and the marble staircase is perhaps the most stunning feature within the building.

The building is considered as one of the prettiest in the city and it is visited and adored by tourists and spectators at the opera. The majority of the shows held at the Opéra Paris are ballets, whereas operas are held at the Opéra Bastille.
