Kilmainham gaol

Inchicore Road, Kilmainham
Dublin 8

Kilmainham gaol is one of the largest unused jails in Europe which was built in 1796 and is where many leaders of the Irish Rebellion were executed. All prisoners were jailed together and even children were arrested and locked away at Kilmainham gaol.

The prison was open for more than 140 years during which many important historical events have taken place, such as the Irish Rebellion, the Great Irish Famine and the Civil War. The jail was closed in 1924 and today, Kilmainham is renowned as a National Monument and has been reopened as a museum. It has also been used as the scene for many famous films such as The Italian Job and In the Name of the Father.

Leicester Square

In 1670 Leicester Square was laid out south of a former royal building called Leicester House. It was a very stylish zone where the world renowned scientist Sir Isaac Newton and the famous artist Hogarth lived. However, towards the end of the 20th century this square became an unattractive location for both Londoners and tourists.

Westminster Council made investments in the region during the 1990's and this square is now home to some of London's largest cinemas, such as The Empire Cinema. Today, many London premiers are held in Leicester Square.

This square is also famous for its kiosks, selling cut-price theatre tickets and at night it is one of the busiest spots in London, where buskers, tourists and young people meet to go to the multiplex cinemas and nightclubs such as the Hippodrome, Equinox and Maximus.

IMAX Port Vell

IMAX Port Vell
Moll de la Fusta
Barcelona

IMAX Port Vell is a large-format cinema which shows documentaries, action and animated films on giant screens.

The IMAX cinema in Barcelona has three different methods of projecting the film. The first is known as IMAX technology, which shows the film on a 21m high screen which produces a spectacular image.

The second type of technology used is omnimax which projects films onto tilted dome screens making the viewer feel emerged in the film and finally, the third is IMAX 3D which gives the impression that the image is jumping out from the screen.
