Toronto Zoo is the main zoo in Canada and is set in the Rouge Valley. There are more than 5,000 animals, 460 different species and it covers around 709 acres of land making it one of the largest zoos in the world, welcoming over one million visitors each year.

There are other attractions at the zoo, apart from the animals such as the Zellers Discovery Zone which is a small zoo for children, the Splash Island which is a water park, and the Waterside Theatre.

The complex also has various restaurants and souvenir shops.

Ontario Science Centre is an interactive science museum in Toronto which was opened in 1969. Kids will absolutely love this museum where they can see what they will look like in years to come with the Aging Machine, visit a tropical rainforest which covers 250 square metres and is bursting with tropical life, or find out how their brain works in MindWorks.

There are over 800 exhibits and live demonstrations which make learning fun. There is also an Omnimax cinema and themed events such as sleepovers and summer day camps. Bookings must be made in advance for these activities.

Jantar Mantar is an astronomical observatory which was built in 1725 for Jai Singh II of Jaipur. It is a collection of six abstract terracotta objects which is situated in the centre of the commercial district in New Delhi, and it has a very impressive sundial which dominates the area and is renowned for its size and height.

Although the observatory no longer works, it has become one of the main tourist attractions in the city and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Staten Island

Every 30 minutes there is a free ferry service between Battery Park and Staten Island. It was designed for workers who live on the island but work in Manhattan and it has become a very popular tourist attraction as there are many things to see, such as the Garibaldi Mucci museum or the Staten Island Museum which explains the history of the island. There is also a zoo, children's museum, Botanic Garden and esplanade.

You can also visit the Historic Richmond Town where you can discover what American life is like today and what it was like during the colonial period. This town covers 25 acres and has 15 restored buildings which are used as houses, shops and a museum.

American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History has the largest collection of insects, amphibians, marine life, reptiles, mammal fossils and dinosaurs in the world. The museum was opened in 1869 and has more than 36 million objects. Two of the biggest attractions in the museum are the life-size replica a of a blue whale which was captured in 1925 and which measures almost 9m and the giant meteorite which was found in Greenland. Another popular attraction is the largest dinosaur's skeleton in the world. This museum also has an IMAX cinema and Hayden Planetarium.

In the Fossil Hall you will see the largest collection of fossils in the world, with 600 samples and the biggest dinosaur in the world. The Rose Center has a large planetarium and collections which are about the universe. Biodiversity is the last section and it aims to make people aware of the risk of not protecting the environment and a huge diorama of a tropical rainforest.

Prague Planetarium was opened in 1960 and is the largest in the Czech Republic and one of the best planetariums in the world. It has three observatories, multimedia and virtual reality shows, and interactive exhibitions.

A trip to the planetarium is one of the best places to take children if you are on a family holiday in the city. It is open everyday of the week, except on Fridays and it costs 10 Kč to see the exhibition and between 40-150 Kč to see the shows. There are two shows held in English.

One of the most important gardens in Europe is the Botanic Garden in Berlin which covers 106 acres of land and is home to 20,000 different plant species. It attracts thousands of tourists each year and one of its most popular features is the touch and smell garden which is designed for visitors with visual impairments. Other attractions are the aquatic plants and marshes in the garden pond.

The Botanic Garden in Berlin is the perfect place to take children as they can explore the Tropical or Mediterranean greenhouses, not to mention the Botanic Museum.

There are open-air concerts with international musicians held in the garden every Friday evening during the summer months, and if it rains the concerts are held in the greenhouses.

Museum Island is the name of the northern half of Spree Island which is located in the centre of Berlin. It was given this name as there are five museums on the island and so for this reason it was declared as a Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.

Altes Museum displays a collection of antiques and was the first public museum opened in Berlin. It also has an art collection which consists of sculptures, mosaics and antique Roman and Greek vases. The Bust of Nerfetiti found in the Egyptian collection is one of the most popular attractions at the Museum.

Pergamonmuseum is another museum on the island which displays various collections. The Pergamon Altar, Ishtar Gate and the Processional Way are some of the greatest pieces on display at the museum. The Museum of Islamic Art is also located within the museum and here you will see the original roof of the Ladies Tower from the Alhambra in Granada.

At Alte Nationalgalerie gallery in Berlin, you will be able to see a collection of 19th century paintings by authors such as Liebermann and Menzel, as well as French painters such as Monet and Renoir.

The Bodemuseum museum displays a collection of sculptures, Byzantine art, money and medals. It is located in a neo-Baroque style building and was constructed between 1897 and 1904.

The biggest science museum in Europe is Cité des sciences et de l'industrie or Science City and is located within the 62 acre La Villette park in Paris. This Science city hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions and has a planetarium which is one of the most popular attractions at the park, along with the 3D cinema Cinaxe.

The Science City has a cyber base, conference rooms and area for children where they are encouraged to learn and explore.

There is also an IMAX cinema called Géode which shows 3-D films on a giant screen.

Apart from Science City, there is also Zénith theatre and a cultural programme with different concerts and an open-air cinema.
