Rajpath
New Delhi

India Gate is located in the centre of New Delhi and is 42m high. It is a monument designed in the shape of an arch, much like the Arc de Triumph in Paris and is located in a key road junction in the city.

The arch was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and was completed in 1931 in honour of the 90,000 soldiers who lost their lives fighting in the British Army during the First World War. There are green areas surrounding the arch which are used as a picnic areas and below the arch is the flame of the immortal warrior.

Mehrauli
New Delhi

Qutb Minar is a 73m high victory tower which was built by the first ruler of Delhi, Qutb-ud-din Aibak between the 13th and 14th centuries.

There are five floors in the tower; the first three are made of red sandstone and the remaining two are made from a combination of marble and sandstone which shows how style changed over the time period it took to build the tower. The first mosque built in India is found at the foot of the tower.

One of the most famous features of the mosque is Delhi Column, a 7m iron column which dates back to the fourth century and was built in honour of the Indian god Vishnu. The Column is located in the courtyard of the mosque and has survived all the years without being damaged.
