The Museum of Contemporary Art was opened in 1991 and is located in the Central Business District of Sydney. It is the only museum in Australia which displays, interprets and shows contemporary art from all over the world.

The J W Power Collection is the largest collection within the museum. John Power had kept his personal collection of art in the University of Sydney so that it could be used by the students and it later went on to create the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

The museum houses around 7,000 objects and has various permanent collections displaying works by Australian artists and other famous artists from all over the world. There are also sculptures, post-modern art, Aboriginal art and temporary exhibitions.

The Art Gallery of Ontario is located in the Chinatown in Toronto and is one of the largest art museums in North America which was founded in 1900.

The permanent collection comprises of 40,000 works of art and around 40% of this is Canadian art. This gallery is famous as it houses the largest art collection by the British sculptor Henry Moore and it also has a large collection of European art, by artists as famous as Rodin, Cézanne, Picasso and Van Gogh.

The gallery is currently being refurbished and should be reopened in Autumn 2008.

The Royal Ontario Museum, more commonly known as ROM, is the largest world cultures and natural history museum in Canada with a total of six million objects in the permanent galleries.

The World Culture Galleries includes a collection of around 2,500 objects from China which are more than 7,000 years old and there are also Egyptian mummies, Prehistoric ceramics and Buddhist Art.

Everyone will enjoy the museum with the National History Galleries, Hands-on Galleries, Exhibition Space and much more. There is even an a area designed for children, called the Discovery Gallery which is an interactive area where they can enjoy hands-on activities.

Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim Museum is an one of the many symbols of New York and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This museum displays a collection of contemporary art, with masterpieces by artists as famous as Braque, Calder, Miró, Picasso, Van Gogh and Kandinsky.

The oldest piece at the Guggenheim museum is a landscape by Camille Pissarro which dates back to 1867. There are guided tours of the museum or you can book an exclusive visit when it is closed to the general public. Apart from the galleries, there is a shop and coffee shop.

The Metropolitan Museum of New York has a large permanent collection which covers the history of the world from the prehistoric era until the present day. This museum houses more than two million works of art from all over the world from different periods in time.

There is a collection of furniture, ceramics and textiles from the 17th and 20th century and objects from America. There is also another gallery dedicated to paintings and American sculptures and objects from the colonial period.

The Egyptian collection is the most popular in the museum and it displays hieroglyphs, mummies and household utensils all divided into various rooms and passages forming a collection of 36,000 objects. One of the most famous pieces in the museum is the Egyptian temple of Dendur which was brought to the museum stone by stone.

Nordiska museet is a museum located on Djurgården island in the centre of Stockholm. Some of the objects on display are tables used for banquets, and coffee and tea sets which show how cooking utensils have changed over the years.

The museum shows a collection of garments such as dresses and male suits which date back to the mid-18th century in the Fashion Gallery, and in Interiors you can compare modern Swedish decor from 1870.

The 21st century is portrayed through photographs of contemporary houses taken by the famous Swedish photographer, Mikkel Ørstedholm. The museum also houses the largest collection of paintings by the Swedish artist Strindberg.

It shows how life was in Sweden at different points in history through handmade objects, photographs and traditional food.

The 700 year old Stockholm Cathedral, Storkyrkan, was the first church built in the city and was originally used for royal wedding and coronations. The elaborate interior of the building is decorated with paintings and the royal-box pews where designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger. One of the most renowned features in the building is the statue of St. George and the Dragon, which was sculpted by the Berndt Notke. The painting of the Last Judgement and the seven-branched candle stick add to the beauty and serenity of the building.

The Royal Palace and Stockholm Library are located near this church.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York is housed in a building designed by Yoshio Taniguchi and has a permanent collection which is divided into the following sections, Architecture and Design, Drawings and Films.

The museum is renowned for its large display of modernist art which takes in all the artist advances of the 20th century, as well as a collection of furniture, textiles, sport vehicles and helicopters.

The paintings and sculpture section makes up the majority of the international modern art display, with a total of 3,200 works which date from the end of the 19th century to today. Some of the most famous paintings are The Young Ladies of Avignon by Picasso and The Water Lily by Monet. Other galleries within the museum are the Photography Gallery and the Painting Gallery.

At the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm you will see a collection of classic art and sculptures donated to the museum by King Gusav III of Sweden and Count Carl Gustaf Tessin. Some of the most admired works belong to authors such as Dalí, Rubens, Monet and Larsson.

The museum was founded in 1792 as a Royal Museum (Konglig Museum) and it was moved to its current location in the Blasieholmen Peninsula in central Stockholm in 1866.

The museum hosts around 500,000 drawings which date from the Middle Ages to 1900, as well as a collection of porcelains, paintings, sculptures and modern art. The most renowned Swedish artists which have contributed to the museum are Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn. The museum also has a library which is open to the general public and a restaurant.

Bertramka is the place where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived during his visits to Prague between 1787 and 1791. The estate dates back to the 17th century and it is said to be where Mozart finished his opera Don Giovanni, directed for the first time in the Estate Theatre of Prague in October 1787.

Today, this building hosts a collection of documents, manuscripts, letters, photos and instruments relating to Mozart's period in Prague. The visit includes a tour of the gardens where you will see a bust of Mozart. The house remains as it was when it was built and it is used to host concerts.
