Sydney Olympic Park is a small sports city which was created to host the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 and it covers around 1,600 acres.

The park has lots of facilities, from huge sport stadiums such as Acer Arena and Telstra Stadium where you can see sports events and rock concerts, to Olympic Park Aquatic Centre with three professional swimming pools, a children's pool with springs and water rides, a spa area, sauna and gym.

Why not go for a walk or cycle in Bicentennial Park; skate or jog beside the Parramota River in Blaxland Riverside Park or have a picnic and disconnect from the beat of the city.

You can even do archery at Sydney Olympic Park Archers or fly on a trapezium at Quasar Trapeze. Test your balancing skills on a skateboard at Monster Skate Park or at the motocross track at Mountain Cross.

Ryogoku-Sumo Town Tokyo

Sumo is the national sport in Japan and is more than 1,000 years old. Surprising the sport has not changed since it was first invented and sumo wrestlers, known as rikishi, still wear their hair as they did during the war celebrations and they wear a special silk belt which weighs between 16 and 30 stone.

The match takes place in a small ring known as a dohyo which measures 4.5m in diameter. The wrester who throws his component out of the circle, or if one component pins the other to the floor using any other part of the body other the foot, is the winner.

The best place to go if you want to see a match is Ryogoku, an area in Tokyo where there are lots of sumo stadiums, sumo stables and chanko restaurants.

The most famous stadium in Ryogoku is Kokugikan Stadium which can host more than 10,000 spectators, and is used as the venue for three of the six annual sumo tournaments which are held in Japan each year. If there are no tournaments to be held during your stay in Tokyo you can go to the heya or sumo stables where the wrestlers live and train.

Thai Boxing is one of the most popular sports in Thailand, especially in Bangkok. This type of boxing is considered the traditional martial art of the country and it is practised using the hands, feet, knees and elbows.

Although it is very similar to boxing, the techniques employed in the sport are different. It is quite spectacular to watch this sport in which components fight using the extremities of their body and wearing the special head garment known as the Mongkon and the Papirachat which is a good luck charm tied around the boxer's arms.

New York Marathon

The New York Marathon is one of the most important races in the world and has around 90,000 participants each year. The main attraction of the marathon is not only the $700,000 prize, but also the chance to win in front of around two million spectators.

The very first marathon was held in 1970 and only 127 participants took part in the race which consisted of four laps of Central Park. The marathon course was changed in 1976 and from that point participants had to cross the five bridges and the finish line was in Central Park.

This marathon has been used as a symbol for others all over the world.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in New York is Central Park, which welcomes around 25 million visitors each year. It is one of the most famous parks in the city and is home to around 750 animals and plants and covers 843 acres of land.

The park was built in 1853 and has a zoo, ice rink, artificial lakes, castle, formal gardens, fountains and around 30 statues.

Concerts and open-air theatrical productions are held in the park during the summer months and there are special events organised for children, such as puppet shows. Many locals use Central Park as part of their training route for the road races which are held in the park most weekends and for the New York Marathon.

Stockholm Globe Arena is the largest spherical theatre in the world and is used to host both sporting and musical events. Globen means balloon in Swedish and the building gets its name from its unusual shape.

It was opened in 1989 for the international ice hockey championships and is a popular tourist attraction today because of its unique structure. The stadium is used for hockey and basketball matches.

Some of the most famous artists who have performed in the stadium are U2 and Bruce Stringsteen. The annual Melodifestivalen is held at the stadium and it was also used to host the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2000.

Berlin Olympic Stadium was built between 1935 and 1936 to host the Olympic Games held in Berlin in 1936. The stadium has recently been modernised and refurbished. It can hold 74,500 spectators and is used for both concerts and sporting events such as football games between national teams.

A visit to the stadium allows you to visit the dressing rooms, the VIP area, the playing field, the chapel, the old grandstand and the tower where you will see panoramic views over Berlin from 77.17m high.
