4:20 and Rising Sun are a twin club and one of the hippest places to celebrate your weekend. 4:20 presents a range of live acts. You can expect indie, rock, new rave, ska and most things with guitars and names like The Hot Grits.

Rising sun is the place to go for Auckland dance music. With an underground feel and lots of dubstep, drum and bass, reggae and dancehall, this is the place to dance the night away.

Relive your bad hair days at this funky theme-bar. Expect all the disco favourites like mirror balls, light-up flooring and a friendly DJ, happy to take requests.

You can book ahead for parties of 25 or more and expect offers such as two-for-one cocktail nights, and special evenings like their 90s revival night.

Crowbar is a comfy and sophisticated place to escape to for a romantic drink, or with a group of close friends to go dancing.

The crowd in this bar is generally young and smart. The atmosphere is relaxed, with its low lighting and luxuriant seating. Expect to have to dress up a little to get in. The crisply-presented barman mix equally well-presented cocktails, and if you take your drink upstairs, you will find the pool table and dance floor. Music varies from night to night, with classics and pop dominating the turntables.

Crowbar is open until 5 a.m. at the weekends.

Fu bar

Fu bar is the home of underground hip hop and dance in Auckland.

If pop and rock leaves you cold, head here from Wednesdays through to Saturdays to find something to dance to.

The tempo on Wednesdays and Fridays is usually urban, with hip hop. Techno and drum and bass turn up the beats on Thursdays and Saturdays respectively. It is open on these nights, from 10 p.m. until late. There might be a door fee for special events. Dress is casual and if you would like to hire a place for your party, there are separate rooms for a more personal venue.

The experts of the New Zealand Opera company have worked hard to bring you soloists, musicians and drama to remember.
They hold two or three large seasons each year. This year they are presenting a warm, Italian romance and a magnificent, Russian drama full of hope, love and despair.

There are cheaper tickets available, on performance day, for the under-25s. Proof of age will be required. There are also reduced prices for senior citizens and students.

R'toto

R'toto, a beach-themed bar, is the home of variety amongst the Auckland nightlife.

R'toto has built up a reputation based on great pub-style food and special theme-nights. 2-for-1 burger nights on Thursday evenings, 2 on 2 "street ball" and live bands keep pulling the crowds in.

The food and drink are fairly general, with beer, wine and cocktails from the bar, and mixed grills, pizzas, salads and pasta from the kitchen.

Receive a warm welcome at the longest-running gay bar in Auckland.

Urge is aimed at a slightly older and more rugged end of the scene than some venues in Auckland. It used to be a leather bar, but this has relaxed a little in the last 2 years under the new ownership of Paul and Alan. They run special nights such as underwear and leather nights and are open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until about 5a.m.

Drinks are reasonably priced and individual or small groups of women are welcome if accompanied by gay friends. However, women should be aware that this is predominantly, a masculine venue.

Wine Loft
