Father Christmas announces the start of the festive season in Amsterdam around the middle of November. Some of the typical events which take place are traditional carol services which are held in the old church and there is also a Christmas market.

Santa Claus brings gifts to the Dutch children on the 5th December and the Queen marks the end of the year by giving her speech on the 31st December. The Dutch celebrate the New Year with fireworks and street parties in Amsterdam.
