The Berlin International Film Festival is attended by more than 19,000 professionals in the film industry from over 120 different countries. It has been held every year in Berlin since 1951 and shows around 350 films as part of it programme.

Prizes are awarded for the best films during this event and there are categories for each type of film, from the best productions to the best short films. The most prestigious prizes on offer at the festival are the Golden and Silver Bears for the best director and the best actor and actress. The ceremony is held every February and the winners are chosen by an international panel.

This festival, otherwise known as the Berlinale, is held in one of the most famous and most beautiful exhibition halls in Germany, the Martin-Gropius-Bau, which is located in Potsdamer Platz. This is where you will find the festival headquarters during the event and there are also a number of cinemas which show some of the films featured.
