Toronto is located north-west of Lake Ontario and is the biggest city and financial centre of Canada. Although English is the official language there are over 100 different languages spoken in the city as it is made up of 150 different ethnic groups and almost half the population of Toronto were born outside Canada. The city centre has a population of more than 2.5 million inhabitants and there are more than 6 million in the metropolitan area. It is the high standard of living and the low level of crime which has made Toronto a very popular destination, as well as attractions such as one of the world's tallest manmade structures, the CN Tower which is 553m high and boasts impressive views over the city centre.
